Group Life
The Value of Community
We value Small Groups at Covina Assembly of God so much that we have made them a priority to the very culture of our church. If you are looking to make new friends, connect with people on a deeper level, or find some companions on your journey of faith and life, then consider joining a Small Group.
What Is a Small Group?
Small Groups are environments where individuals can experience authentic community and spiritual growth. There are three main relationships that we want to foster in Small Groups: Intimacy with God, Connection with Insiders (Believers), and Influence with Outsiders (People far from God).
How to Join
For those who are new to small groups, we recommend beginning with Alpha. Take a look at the list of Small Groups, and contact the leader to find out more details. Ask them what their group is about and what they are doing right now in their group to see if it is something you want to do. If you have any questions, email Carol Smith or call 626.966.4488, ext. 226. We would love the opportunity to connect and help you find a Small Group.
Small Group Sessions
As you look to get involved in a Small Group or even lead one, it is helpful to consider the advantage of dividing the year into four main sessions. A lot of groups kick off in September and run through November, focusing on a certain curriculum. In December, many groups take a break or focus more on celebrating the Christmas season together. In January, groups typically will start a new curriculum and carry it through until March, taking a short break around Easter. Then in spring, groups will typically follow another curriculum through May or June. Groups will often take a break in the summer or meet less frequently or not at all. So if you are looking to get involved in a group, try to pick a time when a group is likely to be starting something new so you can participate from the beginning of the curriculum. Or if you are leading a group, try to start a new curriculum according to the calendar outline above to allow new people to jump in.
